Your greyhound’s life before she (or he) came to you…
If you follow me on Facebook, you know how quickly Ivy integrated into our family, and how much we love her. She raced at the Sanford Orlando Kennel Club track, so when I went to Orlando for the Shameless Book Convention, I arranged an invitation ahead of time to get to meet Ivy’s trainer and see where she’d lived. My four hours in the kennel showed me that it’s a happy, happy place, full of happy dogs. It’s an old building, but it’s clean. However, I think humans see the old, cinder-block building and get a sad vibe from the pictures, but when you’re there, it’s just full of happy dogs. They don’t care that it’s an old building. At all. Also, I don’t know what kind of magic made a dog kennel not smell like dogs, pee, and poop, but they didn’t. There was a slight menthol smell, but it wasn’t overwhelming. I know I was curious about what Ivy had been fed. On this day, the greyhounds got beef, pasta, spinach, milk, and a little kibble in their meals. Kathi knows exactly how much each gets — the blue thing on the upper left is scales. Most dogs got in the neighborhood of two pounds of food, but she knows to the ounce how much each needs. They also get vitamins. Those who were racing today also got bananas and applesauce, for the extra carbs. Ivy got WAY better food at the kennel than we give her.
