New Quinacridone cover — and a short excerpt

safewordquinacridone250x354
It seems the old cover was just too much for Amazon. I still prefer the original, but hopefully this one will pass through Amazon’s censors.

Notice his hands holding her to the wall? Here’s the passage in the book this picture reminds me of:

Cara decided to step to the side to avoid him since her back was to the car; but when she shifted her weight he reached for the nape of her neck and lowered his lips to hers. His hands held her head and his body blocked hers with no hesitation and no doubts, as if her pulling away had compelled him to hold her in place.

It wasn’t the kiss she expected. He controlled her mouth, her lips, her entire body; and she melted into him as he took over. His lips slid on hers as his tongue invaded without tentatively seeking permission, building a slow arousal until her breath caught and her blood pulsed in her ears.

He slid his lips to her cheek before pulling away, but kept his hand on the back of her head and looked into her eyes. Not saying anything, just looking. She felt as if he were claiming her, and she was ready to let him.

Wait. What? This was the geek who couldn’t make conversation?

Release Day – Safeword: Rainbow, the extended edition

I’m excited about this new edition of my first published work. I’ve learned a lot since I originally wrote it, and I believe the writing is tighter, the emotions are more intense, and the descriptions are fewer and farther between. The first rating has hit Goodreads, and it’s  a five star, so I hope this means the readers agree.

You’ll find buy links for most of the major retailers below the blurb.

Safeword: Rainbow by Candace Blevins
Tyler and Viv have found each other again after a three day fling three years ago. Ideally suited for each other, they try to make a relationship work. However, they soon realize Tyler was expecting a 24/7 total power exchange and Vivian will never be a full-time submissive. As they try to find a compromise, Viv must deal with what a Total Power Exchange means, even if it’s only a part time power exchange, and Tyler must decide if he can live with a sometimes-Master and sometimes-boyfriend relationship.

Will they find their pot of gold at the end of the rainbow?

This title was published in 2010 with less than half of the current content. The story has been considerably rewritten and contains a great deal of new material for your reading enjoyment. I think it’s a far better story now, but if you read the original, you can be the judge!

A vastly edited and updated Safeword: Rainbow

As our society debates how to handle our aging population, many of us deal with it on a personal level. My parents are rapidly approaching seventy, and while they’re in great shape and can probably go head to head with most forty year olds, there are still issues.

I was working on the sequel to Safeword: Matte when my mom took a nasty spill. She walks a couple of miles a day, plus works in her yard six or eight hours a day, no matter how hot it may be. She’s not your typical old lady, but she apparently gets injured more easily, and takes longer to heal. Since she refused to allow a stranger into her home when she wasn’t at her best, my dad and I had to give her round-the-clock-care — head injuries are especially difficult, because sometimes she’d wake up and not know where she was. I took a week off  work, but when I returned to my day job I went to their house after work, and stayed until around midnight so my dad could get six hours of uninterrupted sleep. Once we were beyond the first couple of weeks, my husband and kids met me there on the days my mom was up to it, so I could see my family. My wonderful husband usually showed up with dinner already cooked, so all we had to do was sit down and eat.  I’m convinced having her grandkids around gave my mom incentive to get better, faster.

I had my laptop and — on the days my family didn’t come, or later in the evening after they’d gone home — at first I could write when mom was sleeping. However, sometime during the second or third week the clicking of the keys was too much for her, and she couldn’t sleep through the racket. Since Tyler from Safeword: Rainbow plays a significant role in the Matte sequel, I decided it would be a good time for me to re-read Rainbow. But I’ve grown as a writer since I wrote it, and couldn’t resist editing and adding to the story. It wasn’t constant nonstop typing though, and mom slept through it.

The Rainbow manuscript is currently 30,000 words longer than the previous version, though it hasn’t seen an editor yet, and I still have another couple of editing passes to make before I’m ready for anyone else to see it. The story sports several new scenes, and a completely new ending.

So, somewhere in the (hopefully) near future I’ll re-release Safeword: Rainbow. This will also give me an opportunity to give it a different cover — one more in line with the recent releases. However, I’m working on the Matte sequel and the Rainbow rewrite at the same time, depending on where I am and the mood I’m in. As a result, neither is coming along quickly. I’m probably only going to enlist two beta readers for this one — someone who’s read the previous version, and someone who hasn’t — which should cut a couple of weeks off that portion of the process. I’m hoping to get it out in the next two to three months, but not making any promises just yet.

I pretty much dropped out of all social media, and it seems some of you think I dropped off the face of the earth. Sorry about that, but between taking care of mom, a full time job, and two kids and a husband, plus a coyote problem that’s exploded from minor to super-major over the summer… something had to give. Mom is doing much better — still not back to 100%, but the head injury portion has worked itself out, so she no longer has to have someone with her (and awake) at all times.

School starts back next week, and it always takes about a month for us to get back into the swing of things before we can breathe again, which means I hope to be around a little in the near future, and can hopefully begin to be sociable again sometime in September.

Wet and Wild Blog Hop (May 20)

Welcome to the Wet and Wild Blog Hop!

I didn’t have to think about which book might fit best with the Wet and Wild theme. From the beginning of Safeword: Quinacridone, Cara is intrigued — but horrified — by the very concept of watersports. Travis won’t do anything she isn’t comfortable with, but he patiently answers all of her questions and eventually finds a way for her to experience things from a distance. I wanted to give readers an insight into the reason it’s a turn-on for so many people, without squicking them too bad. I’ve included a very short excerpt of one of their conversations, below.

I’ll give away an ebook copy of Safeword: Quinacridone on Saturday, May 25th. There are three ways to enter — do all three and you’ll be entered three times, or do one and you’re entered once:

Excerpt:

Cara slid down his body, scooting back under the covers. “You said you could arrange for me to watch someone being peed on?”

He dipped his head. “I can. There’s a kinky camping event with a kiddie pool set up especially for watersports, or if you want something more private I can arrange for someone to come to the house.”

“Would you be the one to…”

Stretching out beside her, he propped his head on one hand as he stroked her cheek with the other. “No.” He paused, added, “Unless it’s what you’re asking to see, in which case I can hire someone. I thought you wanted to see another couple in action and I can invite a close friend to bring his slave to the house for a private play party.” He smiled, his eyes warm and happy as he traced the line of her jaw with the back of his fingers. “He’d love the opportunity to make her submit to it in front of us.”

“You said you’ve done it before?”

He sighed, moved his hand to her stomach, and gave her his undivided attention. “I have, but it’s been a while. For a short period I really got off on it, and thankfully I was in Europe at the time where some of the streetwalkers are more likely to agree to that sort of thing, for a price.” His gaze rose for a second and he brought it back, as if forcing himself to look at her instead of an interesting spot on the wall. “It shames me now, how much I got off on the degradation of pissing on them in alleyways and behind garbage bins. I’ve grown up since then and wouldn’t enjoy it anymore. Not like that, anyway. I mean, if I was with someone who got off on it, I could…but back then?” He shook his head. “I was no better than the assholes who used you with no thoughts for your feelings.”

He looked away again, obviously uncomfortable, and Cara reached up to stroke his cheek. “How old were you?”

“I don’t know, maybe seventeen or eighteen? I kept a residence in Paris at the time.” His eyes met hers again and he grinned. “The age of consent’s fifteen; you can buy alcohol at sixteen and can get into clubs at eighteen — though a little cash would get me in at seventeen without a problem.” He shrugged. “I wasn’t a party animal, I still worked a ridiculous number of hours a week, but I was also a teenage boy and too young and full of myself to have so much money and power.”

“Don’t beat yourself up too bad. You grew up, and I’m betting you paid them enough that they don’t think terrible thoughts about you when they remember it.”

He rolled onto his back and stared at the ceiling. “It’s nice having someone who believes in me. The truth is, a few times I got off on just paying what I thought I could get away with, so they wouldn’t make a scene. Later, you’re right, I more than compensated them, but…” he sighed, rolled back to her, and met her gaze again. “I’ve never been this honest with anyone but Paul. You know how much I love you, right?”

Cara smiled. “And I love you, too, but don’t change the subject. What about it turns you on? Not then, but later…and, now, if you were going to.”

“The power, and the visual; but it’s more than that. A dog uses urine to mark his territory, so in a way it’s as if I’m claiming them. Some of it’s probably the taboo factor of pissing on someone, and even more so, making them drink your urine. But just watching it wet them, drip off them, soak their hair, and the look on their face.” He closed his eyes, inhaled slowly, and opened them. “I don’t personally like the odor, so if I know ahead of time, I hydrate really well.”

“You’ve paid people regularly, so you felt as if you owned them for a few weeks or so, right?”

“Yes,” he tipped his head, “and in some of those cases I used watersports to drive home my ownership.”

“Would you feel as if you own me more if you peed on me?”

“More? No, I don’t think so. Maybe in the moment, but long term I’m secure in our relationship.” He leaned down to caress her lips with his and rose above her with a happy smile. “I don’t need to prove I own you, and I think that’s what I was doing with them. Besides, we own each other. I’m yours as much as you’re mine.”

Magic Touch Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the Magic Touch Giveaway Hop!

What creates that special bit of magic between two people? Chemistry? Pheromones mixing just right? Who knows; but we can all recognize it when we see it. I’ve included an excerpt below from Safeword: Quinacridone, because I think Travis has the magic touch when it comes to Cara.

I’ll be giving away an ebook copy of Safeword: Quinacridone Tuesday, April 30th. There are three ways to enter — do all three and you’ll be entered three times, or do one and you’re entered once:

I think this might be the best review, ever.

Safeword Quinacridone

Anna at Herding Cats and Burning Soup gave Safeword: Quinacridone a 4 of 5, but I think her review might be one of the best I’ve seen. You really need to go read it, but here are a few of the things she had to say:

It takes some serious talent to make fisting romantic…

Travis and Cara have an incredible relationship that you can feel and see changing over the years they spend together. The book covers I think around 2 years. I loved their relationship and that they support each other at work, at home, respect each other inside and outside of the bedroom and that they come together to face anything that stands in their way. They’re far from perfect but what they have together is amazing.

Blevins really didn’t hold back and lets these two be themselves. And they explore it all. Playing with electricity, multiple partners, extreme objectification (he turns her into a blow up sex doll with a latex suit that even has pockets for all of her cavities to be used just like the doll), anal play, fisting (and yes one of my favorite scenes involved fisting and she did make it incredibly romantic–amazingly), use of all sorts of products like blended hot peppers inserted in parts you just don’t want that inserted. My girlie bits cringed multiple times reading this one. There’s whipping and bondage and exploration of amputation fetishes. Yes. Those apparently exist. Nothing was actually amputated but there’s some serious mind fucking going on in regards to it…Nothing was off limits with these two but it was all consensual and definitely what they both wanted…

And while Travis is most definitely a sadist I liked that he wasn’t a complete sadistic bastard. Oh, he likes to hurt women and make them scream. Gets off on it and has no problem doling out painful experiences to Cara since it’s what she craves. He doesn’t get off just on the pain though but knowing that it’s turning her on too. And he worries about it. I loved that he had a moment of, not panic exactly, but a moment where he really had to do some soul searching because he was scared one day he’d take them too far and do actual damage to her. That was what had me falling for Travis and being able to handle all of the extreme things they tried.

…if you like a darker read now and again and are an adventurous reader I say give Safeword: Quinacridone a try. It’s bound to make you a bit uncomfortable now and again and make your eyes as big as saucers but it’s a fantastic read. Blevins pulled me in completely and had me riveted to the pages. I’m looking forward to checking some of her other books out. And no worries. If you want to try this one it reads very easily as a stand alone.

Snifferwalk gives Safeword: Quinacridone 5 Stars

Safeword Quinacridone

Liberty Ann at Snifferwalk gave Safeword Quinacridone 5 stars and said:

Since my kink is bondage and domination, there was sufficient to make me want to squeal with delight. If you like sadism or objectification, you will be doing way more than squealing. Over all, it will take way more than a simple cold shower to release the total Snuggly factor found in this book.

I fell in love with both characters, despite the times when I became a bit squeamish. The book was entertaining, educational, full of fantasy and that hard-to-define IT factor in my opinion. I would absolutely read it again and totally look forward to reading the books Ms. Blevin’s has written that I have yet to consume.

Safeword: Quinacridone won Book of the Month over at BDSM Book Reviews!

I’m astounded. Thanks so much to everyone who voted!

I’ve been without a computer for almost a week, and have tried to keep up with things via my tablet, which is a huge PITA. My new computer should be delivered this evening. **crossesfingers** Perhaps the way to win these things is to stay offline during voting? Who knew?

Again, thanks to everyone who voted. I can’t wait to get back to writing the sequel to Safeword: Matte once I get my new computer all set up. This is just the kick in the pants I needed to get me writing again.

We Love Kink gives Safeword: Quinacridone 5 of 5 Love Pats

Safeword Quinacridone

M2dee at We love Kink gave Safeword: Quinacridone 5 of 5 Love Pats and said:

…The story content is very well researched and developed as to the strong BDSM and Objectification of the characters…The level of [Cara and Travis’s] conviction to each others extreme personal release and mutual torment level, was by far compelling and graphic…This book is one I will reread again in the future. I highly recommend this book to serious readers.

Head on over to We love Kink to see what else she said, and to enter to win an ebook copy of either of the Davenport books.
