Because I’m so excited about Safeword: Quinacridone, here’s an (unedited) excerpt, to introduce you to Travis and Cara:

“Do you remember when I told you to say yellow if you needed me to realize you couldn’t breathe, or needed me to understand something wasn’t working for you?”

She looked up, not sure where he was going, and nodded cautiously.

“Here’s one of my secrets. I like it when a woman begs me to stop, but I can keep going. I like it when I can hurt her a little, but I don’t want to cause pain she’s not okay with, and it wouldn’t be good for either of us if she really wanted me to back off. So we agree to a word that’ll mean stop, and then she can say no and stop and please don’t all she wants, and we can pretend I’m forcing her. I’m telling you this because I think you’d like it, too.”

“What word?” Her gaze returned to the comforter, and she had to concentrate to sit still. She found herself intrigued, but mortified at her body’s reaction.

“It’s your word; you get to choose. It shouldn’t be something we’d normally say during sex, and it’s better if you find one with special meaning, something personal.”

She raised her head again, needing to see his face, but wanting to look at the comforter. “If yellow meant slow down and check in, I’m betting red is used for something more serious, right?”

He nodded and she said, “Okay then. Quinacridone. That’s my stop word.”

His face broke into a lopsided smile, as if he was relieved she was going along with this. “Quinacridone. That’s a new one. What does it mean?”

She suddenly felt shy again and looked away. “It’s a red pigment; it’s used in higher quality paints, sometimes.”

He chuckled, a happy laugh. “Do you have a word you want to use for yellow?”

She shook her head, still averting her eyes, and focused once more on her big toe. “No, yellow’s fine.”

His fingers touched under her chin, gently lifting her face. “I want to spank you, Cara. I want to put you over my lap and spank you with my hand, and if you like it enough, maybe with a paddle, too. Then I want to play with your asshole with my fingers, get you ready for me before I fuck you there. If you say quinacridone I’ll stop and hold you and do everything I can to make you okay. If you say yellow I’ll back off, see what needs adjustment, and we’ll keep going.” He leaned forward; kissed her forehead. “If you tell me to stop, or say no, or ask me not to do something, or call me a fucking bastard, I’ll keep going.”

He tilted his head and seemed to study her a few seconds before asking, “Sound like something you want to do?”

“Spank me? Like a kid?”

“No.” He shook his head. “Not like a kid. This isn’t punishment; it’s for fun. I’ll make it good for you, and if it you don’t like it, we’ll stop.”

The idea didn’t sound so bad, but the reality? To drape herself across his lap, presenting her ass for a spanking? Could she? She’d rather not have to submit to it, which was the great thing about most of the assholes she screwed –– they did what they wanted, and didn’t make her talk about it.

She felt so vulnerable when he made her look at him. His finger was still under her chin, so she aimed her eyeballs down in an attempt to escape his gaze.

He moved his hand, letting her have control of her face again. “Okay, I won’t make you ask for it, but I need you to tell me what you’ll say if you want things to stop.”

Her eyes were focused on the navy comforter, seeing the patterns in the soft brushed microfiber that felt almost like baby fine deerskin. “Quinacridone.”

“Okay. Over my lap then Cara Mia, you can leave the robe on if you like.”

He readjusted until he was sitting with his back against the headboard and his legs straight out. Cara crawled to him, as it seemed the easiest way to get there, but it felt odd, and she was a little surprised to discover it was turning her on. She draped herself over his lap, leaving her robe on.

A weight rested on her ass –– no heat, just a weight –– his hand over the robe.

“I like starting with clothes sometimes; it’s fun to reveal what’s underneath. Kind of like unwrapping a present.”

His hand smoothed its way down her ass, to her thigh, and she felt the warmth of his palm as it went lower than the robe and they were skin on skin. His fingers were silky soft as he drew them back up, pushing the robe up her legs.

She felt herself grow wet, wanted to wiggle her ass on his lap, but she held herself oh-so-still, barely breathing. This was a brand new experience and her body loved it, but her mind was reeling. His hand was at the top of her left thigh now, slowly sliding its way up, and she felt the cooler air brush her skin as he pushed the robe higher, and higher.

A long overdue update

I’ve been in my writing cave for what seems like forever. When I finished the last Davenport book I thought my next book was mostly written, and I was certain it wouldn’t take long to finish.

I wrote Safeword: Quinacridone last year, but it needed a little something extra, so I set it aside to write something else, hoping some distance would help me see what it needed. However, I’ve rewritten much of the story, and the word count is now more than twice what it was when I “finished” it last year.

Travis is a computer geek, Cara’s an artist. I adore both, and wanted to do right by them. Travis and Cara explore objectification, which may not sound too extreme at first glance, but I’ve seen couples take it much farther than I’d want to go. I’m good with a little dehumanization for an hour or two, but then I’m ready to come out of the scene and be myself again.

Cara mostly agrees with me, but the idea of longer term objectification appeals to her, so this journey is, in part, finding a balance that allows the couple to fully explore their kink without losing any of Cara’s personality. Travis loves her, adores her, and worries where they’ll end up in a few decades as they each play off of the other’s kinks.

First, there’s some baggage both must deal with. Most of my female leads are experienced in the world of BDSM, but Cara isn’t. She’s brand new, and has to come to terms with labeling her kinks before she can feel comfortable in a relationship with the person who first named them.

I’m excited about this book, and can’t wait until it’s finally ready for release.

I should have a cover to share in the near future!

Masquerade Moonlight Giveaway Hop

Moonlight Masquerade Blog Hop

Welcome to Masquerade Moonlight Giveaway Hop!

I write BDSM Romance, and the lifestyle uses a variety of masks and hoods, but they aren’t used for trick-or-treating. On second thought, the submissive is often treated to the sensation of floggers or canes or paddles… so perhaps they are, in a twisted sort of way.

In Safeword: Davenport the first time we see a mask, it’s a diving mask used in the pool for a lengthy sensory deprivation scene. The second time, the anchors of a leather mask are used to hold Dana’s head and face out of the way while her breasts and back are flogged at the same time by two Doms, each wielding two floggers.

Here’s a short excerpt of the second:

Her focus shifted to the hood in Max’s hands and she shook her head, not able to get the words out for the adrenaline spiking through her veins.

“Hear me out; if you don’t want it we’ll do something else.” His hands splayed it open. “It’s not a traditional full face hood, there’s one large hole for the nose and mouth, see? It fastens under your chin, and will fit snug across the back of your head.”

He rotated it. “I can use these four attachment points to secure it to the poles, to keep you looking forward. There are holes for your eyes and ears — this isn’t about sensory dep; I need to ensure your head stays away from the floggers. I have a posture collar we can use instead, but I’m told this is more comfortable.”

“Can you put it on me and let me decide? I know what a posture collar feels like; let me see how this compares.”

He nodded and worked it onto her head, careful to keep her hair smoothed back. It didn’t close her off from the room, and made her feel secure in its bondage without being claustrophobic.

Max looked at her, a question in his gaze and she let him know it was okay. When he finished tying it off to the poles, she couldn’t turn her head from side to side, but Jacob was at about two o’clock in her vision and she could see him by shifting her eyes. He was still straining to hold himself up by his arms, struggling to keep his weight off the phallus. Dana wondered if Zach would want to mount her on a statue, let her be his own dramatic art piece.

The first strike of the flogger landed on her right shoulder blade as the thought went through her mind, chasing it away.

The excerpt picks up here, about halfway down the page, if you’d like to keep going.

I’ll give away the winners choice of an ebook of either Safeword: Davenport or Safewords: Davenport and Chiffon on Thursday, November 1st.

Safeword: Davenport by Candace Blevins

Safewords: Davenport and Chiffon by Candace Blevins

I feel I should warn these aren’t beginner BDSM books. Everything is consensual, but it’s real pain, and about as close as one can get to total surrender while sustaining a career. If you’re only interested in a little slap and tickle, these might be a bit much.

Here’s the blurb for Safeword: Davenport

Dana has never submitted to anyone but her husband — he trained her, taught her to submit. He’s been dead a year and a half though, and she’s beginning to consider the possibility of dating again. She sticks to vanilla at first, but quickly realizes she’s going to need more. As she’s considering the idea of finding someone who would enjoy hurting her without requiring her submission, her life is complicated by a Dom who pushes all of her buttons.

Safeword: Davenport is the first half of Dana’s story, it’s the personal part of her journey, and has a Happy for Now ending. Safewords: Davenport and Chiffon tells the rest of her story and gives us her Happily Ever After.

Warning: This title contains graphic language, consensual BDSM, bondage, intense sensory deprivation, extreme electrical play, enemas, and the use of toys including clamps, canes, plugs, cages, paddles, whips, and floggers.

Here’s the blurb for Safewords: Davenport and Chiffon

Dana is ready to submit to Zach, but she’s going to be surprised by the depth of her submission. She’s comfortable Dominating Jacob, but how will the four of them form a unit?

Zach thought he’d worked through his issues, and he was patient with Dana as she worked through hers, but a painful reminder of the past makes him question whether he can accept Dana’s submission. Will he be able to handle being completely vulnerable once again?

Warning: This title contains graphic language, consensual BDSM, bondage, extreme electrical play, enemas, and the use of toys including clamps, canes, plugs, cages, paddles, whips, and floggers.

Wicked After Dark Halloween Bloghop

Welcome to the Wicked After Dark Halloween Bloghop!

We’re supposed to give away something wicked for this blog hop, and I’d have to say a Dom who uses a stainless steel cane exclusively for punishment would qualify.

Don’t get me wrong, Ethan has a sweet side, and he’s the ultimate Caretaker Dom — but when he’s in a scene he doesn’t mess around with punishments. Some submissives might be relieved to be let out of a punishment, but the type of woman Ethan prefers would be disappointed if he skimped on a punishment, so it all works out.

Here’s a very short blurb of Sam’s first punishment from Ethan. It’s also their first scene together, and she’s on a verbal restriction allowing her to make all the noise she wants as long as there are no words. She messes up and says something mid-orgasm, and has a stroke of the stainless cane coming:

He raised his eyebrows and relaxed them. “You didn’t know you talked? Well, seeing as how it was a rather intense orgasm, I’m inclined to just call it one stroke. You need to know I’m serious about punishments, but you also need to know I can be flexible if the situation warrants it. So, one stroke it is. No need to signal red when I’m done, I’ll be stopping at one whether you flash red or not. It’s going to be more than you think you can take. Punishments are like that, yes? You’d be disappointed if it weren’t.”

Safeword: Matte by Candace Blevins

Sam wasn’t sure how she felt about the no-talking thing. The loss of words was much bigger than she thought it’d be when she agreed.

Ethan stood and took his shirt off, folding it and placing it beside her clothes before retrieving the black PVC pipe. He pulled the cane from the black pipe and walked behind her without fanfare.

The mirror allowed her to see him raise the stainless cane — such a beautiful instrument, reflected in the mirror like a wand of light emanating from his fist instead of a solid piece of steel. She could tell he wasn’t using a lot of strength as it descended towards her ass, which was why she was so shocked at the level of pain hitting her brain when the signal finally managed to get there. If she’d sounded like a wounded animal before, it’d been an injured rabbit. She sounded like a bear now, a grizzly bear with a fatal wound, and she couldn’t stop the noises coming out of her mouth. She desperately wanted him to rub her ass, but was terrified it would only hurt worse. When she next opened her eyes he was squatting in front of her, so their faces were on the same level.

“You won’t speak another intelligible word, will you?”

She shook her head no, quickly. Too fast, it almost made her dizzy.

“Punishments from me are generally quick and to the point. It’s over now, we’re good. You have four more strokes of the flogger coming to you. You’ll get them all at once. Nod that you understand.”

She shook her head no; she couldn’t take four strikes of anything right now, her ass fucking hurt.

His smile was gentle as he caressed her cheek and said, “Good girl. Honesty is good. I’ll rub your back for a minute while you deal with the pain. I’m happy you told me you weren’t ready, I need to trust you’ll let me know these things. Do you know why I’m not rubbing your ass? No words, yes or no with your head.”

She knew. He wasn’t going to give her relief from punishment. And she respected him for it, too. She nodded and he smiled before standing and rubbing her back — soothing her, calming her down. He comforted her for several long moments before returning to her ear with his mouth. “Four more, two at a time, use your hands to signal if it’s too much.”

Here’s the blurb for Safeword: Matte

Matte, pronounced mah-tay, is the word used in some forms of martial arts to stop a fight. It’s the Japanese word for stop or wait. Sam (short for Samantha) has made a hobby out of learning the various fighting disciplines, but she also happens to be a sexual submissive. What better safeword than matte?

Sam wants to find someone to submit to who she can’t beat in a fight. She’s tried to make it work with men from the scene who know nothing about fighting, but it doesn’t feel real to her – she needs someone who can truly control her. However, after dating from the fight scene and discovering not all guys like to spank their girlfriends, she’s decided to just back away from the whole dating thing for a while… until Fate decides to step in.

Indulgent Blog Hop

Welcome to the Guilty Indulgence Blog Hop!

What’s an indulgence for an author? Something we write specifically for ourselves. In my case, it’s Safeword: Matte. At the time, it seemed every book I read had all of this drama pulling the fated couple away from each other, and forcing the couple to fend off all manner of contrived conflicts and misunderstandings to somehow stay together. I wanted to watch a couple come together with only the usual obstacles, so I wrote it.

We still have a little conflict and drama, of course. Books must have something to make them interesting, but I enjoyed writing it, and I’m told it’s a pretty fun book to read.

I’ll give away an ebook copy of Safeword: Matte on Sunday evening, September 23rd. There are three ways to enter — do all three and you’ll be entered three times, or do one and you’re entered once:

Warning: This title contains graphic language, consensual BDSM, bondage, and use of toys including crops, clamps, canes, and floggers.
