Sunshine Award

I’ve received the Sunshine Award from Qwillia Rain, one of my cohorts over at Kinky Ever After.

This fun award requires I reveal ten things not many people know about me.

  1. I love to hike. Before husband and kids came along I’d throw a backpack on and wonder off into wilderness areas for days at a time. If it were an area where dogs were allowed I had my German Shepherd with me. If not, it was just me. My husband hiked with me some before we had kids, but now we consider camping in a tent right beside the car to be an adventure.
  2. I lived in China a while. Follow the link to my Pinterest Favorite Places board and take a look at the karst mountains surrounding Guilin. Yeah, I’ve climbed a few of those. You’ll also see some of the areas I enjoy hiking close to where I live now – some of which have made it into my books. (I recently joined Pinterest, there isn’t much up yet, I need to spend some time linking to more books, especially.)
  3. I came of age in the 80’s and like 80’s music. My favorite internet radio station is Club 977’s 80’s channel (clicking link will open their player in a new window and start the music).
  4. My oldest daughter is no longer a fan of 80’s music, so I’m learning to like current music, too. (Again, clicking link will open player in a new window and start the music).
  5. I used to be a dancer, but an injury ended things years earlier than I was ready to stop. I was best at ballet, but most of the jobs I got were for Broadway type shows (but in Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Alabama, and Florida – not on Broadway).
  6. I’m taking an adult hip-hop class now from someone I used to dance on stage with twenty plus years ago. She turned into a most excellent choreographer, and she’s making us look pretty good. Even if we are dancing to Gaga.
  7. I juggled professionally for a few years, which helped pay my way through college.
  8. I love to swim. I’m more at home in the water than I am on land.
  9. Opening the pool in the spring is both exciting and sad for me though, because it means no marks that’ll show in a bathing suit for the next four or five months. Unless the weatherman calls for three or four days of rain in a row, which has been known to happen.
  10. I’m a vegetarian.

Thanks Qwillia, this was fun!

And the winner is….

Safeword: Matte by Candace Blevins
The winner of the free ebook copy of Safeword: Matte is Autumn J Lake. Congrats!

Thanks to everyone who entered.

Blurb:

Matte, pronounced mah-tay, is the word used in some forms of martial arts to stop a fight. It’s the Japanese word for stop or wait. Sam (short for Samantha) has made a hobby out of learning the various fighting disciplines, but she also happens to be a sexual submissive. What better safeword than matte?

Sam wants to find someone to submit to who she can’t beat in a fight. She’s tried to make it work with men from the scene who know nothing about fighting, but it doesn’t feel real to her – she needs someone who can truly control her. However, after dating from the fight scene and discovering not all guys like to spank their girlfriends, she’s decided to just back away from the whole dating thing for a while… until Fate decides to step in.

Warning: This title contains graphic language, consensual BDSM, bondage, and use of toys including crops, clamps, canes, and floggers.

Safeword: Matte

Safeword: Matte gets a 5 of 5 from KinkyBookReviews

Safeword: Matte gets 5 of 5 Kinks and a Recommended Read from Kitten at KinkyBookReviews.com.

The sadistic and masochistic bdsm elements of this story was so well written that the bar has just been raised for all bdsm erotica i read in the future. Blevins just proved you can write accurate BDSM without it being fantasy or pretty, and still keep it sexy and engaging.

She had lots of other nice things to say, you can read the full review here.

A Theme Song for Safeword: Matte

Thanks to Bookaddict on Goodreads for giving Safeword: Matte a them song:

I like this song so much I bought it and added it to two of our scene playlists.

Here are a few select stanzas from the song.

Strange and it’s wonderful
How you tell me what you need, the joy and the treasure
Of pain’s guilty pleasure
Love’s pressure painfully

No sorrow tied
Tied to my hurting you
We delight in every torture I put you through

How did we find this place
This state where we satiate, where pain makes you beautiful
Strange and so wonderful where you’re no good for yourself

I bring you pain
Pain makes you beautiful
I’m no good for you
You’re no good for yourself

No sorrow tied
Tied to my hurting you
To the compromising position, to all the painful things I do

Pain makes you beautiful
I give you what you want, the pain and the pleasure
I’m no good for you, but then you’re no good for yourself

Dark Haven Book Reviews gives Safeword: Matte a 5 of 5

The Dark Haven Maven said:

… I love these characters! I’ve read this story three times and the feeling at the end was the same each time- realism.

Sam and Ethan will have you gasping at a painful moment, one minute and then squirming in your seat the next during some of the hottest sex scenes I’ve read in a while. And I’ve read a lot.

She had lots of other nice things to say about Sam, Ethan, and their adventures together.

She’s also giving away four free ebook copies of Safeword: Matte. Go here to read the rest of the review, and enter to win a free copy.

Many thanks to the Dark Haven Maven for taking the time to read and review Safeword: Matte!

Twitter Virgin – Please be gentle

I consider myself to be fairly tech savvy. I was on the internet before images were, and I’ve learned all of the new tech things as they’ve been programmed into life.

For various reasons, I never took the Twitter plunge. Maybe it sounded to cutesy at first? I don’t know, it just didn’t appeal to me. However, I’ve decided I need to change that, so I created an account last night, and attempted to give myself a crash course.

I’ve read up on hashtags (Is there a list somewhere?), and read a few dozen Twitter Etiquette lists, and I think I understand the basics of how the software works, but if I make a horrible faux pas, someone please tell me.

If you’d like to follow me, I’m pretty sure this is the link to do it.

More Reviews of Safeword: Matte

Annabel Joseph rated it five stars on Goodreads and said:

BEWARE, the sex scenes are really…AROUSING. Alpha, alpha, ALPHA male here. If you are into demanding yet sensual alpha males, this book is for you.

AlexJouJou gave it four and a half stars on Manic Readers and said:

Creative and imaginative, the scenes are spellbinding. They will take you further than you think you want to go and make you happy you arrived there. Crisp and flavorful prose delights the senses and will have your face contorting six ways from Sunday at many of the actions…
